using latest [2019-04-07] django & python project, here is my (dirty quick) implementation: views.py (your project app):
from django.views.generic import TemplateView class LoginRegisterView(TemplateView): template_name = 'base/login_register_modal.html'
in urls.py (your project app):
from .views import start_page, contact_page, LoginRegisterView urlpatterns = [ ... path('login/', LoginRegisterView.as_view(), name='login'), ]
and a button in navbar:
{% if not request.user.is_authenticated %}

{% else %} {% endif %}
plus some linking to js and css, usual django code.
